Sonia Kashuk Bamboo Kabuki Brush Review

My Sonia Kashuk Bamboo Kabuki brush now lives in the makeup bag I carry around my purse and I use it with my blot powder to blot my face whenever I need to.  I sometimes will use it with m MSFs if I want to where it on my cheeks because it picks up just the right amount of product to work with.

This brush is taller than your average kabuki brush so it’s not a “buki” brush.  The handle is about four inches ling and the brush is about two inches long.  The brush is synthetic, very dense, very well made, attractive, strong, eco-friendly (I think) and is meant to be used with powders/minerals.

The brush sheds minimally and dries fast after a deep cleaning.  I only find two cons with this brush and 1. is that it’s a big brush and 2. it doesn’t come with a cover or is not a retractable kabuki.  I have to be careful when zipping and unzipping my makeup bag so that I won’t lose any hairs in it.  The hairs/bristols are not prickly or hard like my Bare Escentuals kabuki brush and doesn’t shed as much either (not even close).

I bought this brush from Target and paid $12.99 for it, I believe and I think that’s expensive for a drug store brush, but the brush is pretty good for the price.  It beats paying $30 for a higher end kabuki.  Again, this brush does what it’s supposed to do so I’m happy with it.

A “Dollar Tree” Makeup Haul

The Dollar Tree in Somerset, NJ on Easton Avenue is the CLEANEST MOST ORGANIZED Dollar Tree I’ve ever been to.  Anyway, I hauled some cheap makeup.  I like some of it and I hate some of it.  Let me show what I got and I’ll note if I hate it or love.

This was all I picked up!  I picked up the ELF Brow and Lash Gel (love it, but not for long wear use – does the job), one ELF Bronzer Brush (I hate it, not an ELF brush fan anyway), an Elf pencil sharper that came with two (can’t have too many of these), an ELF eyeshadow quad in Drama (I love it), an ELF eyeshadow quad in Blue Moon (I hate it) and an L.A. Colors 6 eyeshadow palette in BEP415 Eye Candy (I love it).

Here are the eyeshadow swatches and why I love or hate the product…

I hate the Elf Blue Moon quad because the eyeshadows are messy, loose and have no color.  The shadows look like they have color in the pan, but when swatched they come out chalky and messy.  I didn’t even mean to buy this quad, but I had a million other items in my basket that cost a dollar so this one slipped through the cracks.  Take a look at the swatches…ugh.  In the picture above, in the top right of it – do the colors in that quad look like the swatches below???  Not even close, but this is it.

I love the Elf Drama quad a lot.  The eyeshadows do not come out chalky and they swatch true to color in their pans and are very pigmented.  I can see myself using this quad out on vacations and short trips conjuring up a quick smokey look with no problems.  I saw this quad being used by Niniluvsmakeup on Youtube and it worked well with the look she achieved. I’m glad I got this one.

And last, but not least, I picked up a 6 eyeshadow palette of vibrant colors by L.A. Colors because it looked pretty and Blanche Babcock (who I adore) uses L.A. Colors a lot in her drag looks.  I love it and I had to have it.   There was another palette that consisted of mostly purple colors so I didn’t get it.  I like this versatile palette better.  I can see taking this palette and the ELF drama quad and making sweet unwearable looks that I love to rock everyday.  The colors swatch out nicely, pigmented and are not chalky.  None of the shadows are matte, kind of like a satin or frosty finishes.  Easy to work with.

Overall, I am happy with the products I picked up.  And the best thing about these products is that they only cost me $1.00 each!

For Our Upcoming Trip – Too Cute!

It’s a Minnie Mouse multi-use bag I picked up the Disney Store recently where I’m going to store my makeup in while on vacation.  We’re going to Disney World so the bag fits the theme.  It’s plastic and I paid about $7.99 for it.  It’s pretty roomy.

Continuation of my B-Day CCO Haul

This haul came from the CCO over in Tannersville, PA outlets the day after my Jersey Shore CCO haul.  I found stuff to buy so here it is…

mac cco haul

I was only allowed to buy three pigments so I got MAC Teal, Chartreuse and Gold Mode.  I also picked up a MAC lipglass in Style Minx, a MAC Cremesheen Glass in Creme Anglaise (love love love – I need to go back and get a back up), MAC eyeshadow in Talent Pool (MakeupbyTiffanyD on YouTube did a nice summery look with this eyeshadow I want to try out so I got it) and another MAC 219 brush.
