Surprise Gift Came In The Mail Today!
Saturday, July 25th, 2009I have been feeling down lately because of a lot of things that I don’t have any control over now and with that comes a bad attitude AND fighting with my Hubby.
Well, he doesn’t know anything about makeup or anything like that, but he went on Ebay and got me a MAC Glitter called Reflects Very Pink from the MAC Hello Kitty collection and it’s also a MAC Pro Glitter as well. Yeah! It is authentic MAC so no worries. It is my very first MAC glitter ever and I’ll remember this moment for the rest of my life. *sniff sniff* What a great Hubby I have that puts up with my mess. I’m so happy!
Here are some pics of my precious. It’s a lot of pics for one glitter, but hey, I’m excited about! Here goes!

And for those of you who have never seen or paid attention to a MAC glitter before, the nail polish bottle on the side gives an idea of how big the glitter jar is.
Brush Roll and Vanity…
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009Hubby and I are currently looking for a makeup vanity for me, with seat, so I can start building my makeup stash. I’m looking for a pre-owned one that looks sort of antiquey with a goth type of look to it too. It has to be black or if not black then maybe cherry wood…maybe. So, once I get one I will post pictures of it. It’s not like I’ll be able to fill it up with makeup right away because I don’t have much, but I’m thinking that will all change as time goes by.
So anyway, here is my edited and final list of what I’m going to pick up from the MAC Colour Craft collection. Oh dear Colour Craft. The only bright colors I’ll wear for makeup is pink. My dark soul cannot take all of the shimmer unless it’s dressed up subtly with darker, matte colors. I think this collection is OK, but after so much time thinking about it I decided on just getting these for collection purposes:
- 131 brush
- Mineralized Eyeshadow in Fashion Patch
- Mineralized Blusher in Daft Pink
- Mineralized Skinfinish Trio in Smooth Merge
- Mineralized Skinfinish in Porcelain Pink (love love love)
That’s all! I’m not into lots and lots of shimmer unless it’s the product is loose so this is all that I’m getting from this collection. I also heard from Michelle1218 (my favorite Youtube Beauty Guru next to Richie Nickel) that she had a hard time picking up color from the Colour Craft Mineralized Eyeshadows with her 239 brush — EEEEEK! In saying all of that, I am very excited about the MAC Black Collection that is coming out this fall – yay no more funky mineralized colors for a while! I don’t like lipsticks, but I really, really want that black lipstick from MAC. I’ve got to have it. On day one I’m at my MAC store purchasing my lipstick in Black Knight. I’m also going to pick up all three Glimmerglasses (woot!) and eyeshadows in Midnight Media and Night Violet.
OK so I was browsing through Specktra today and I came across a thread in the forums where a member MissChievous (love her makeup tutorials to death!) posted some neat brush rolls she discovered online at Etsy.com. Here are the ones I’m interested in getting. I would like to buy three. One for face brushes, one for eye brushes and one for miscellaneous brushes. These patterns and colors will go well with the vanity I want that I dont’ have yet. Ha! It’s so much fun planning these things out.

Aren’t they just gorgeous?! Very. I of course want that Mac Pro Brush Belt and I will get it one day so no, I didn’t forget about that one.

Drugstore Mini Brush Haul
Thursday, July 16th, 2009I went on a mini brush haul at CVS this past Sunday and picked up a few dual and small brushes made by Essence of Beauty. Here are my drug store brand brushes that I’ve heard so many good things about…review is coming soon for each.

Essence of Beauty Brushes
From bottom to the top…
-Finishing Brush
-Dual Foundation and Concealer Brush
-Dual Contour and Face Brush
-Dual Blending and Eyeshadow Brush
-Dual Comb/Eyebrow and Eyeliner Brush
-Crease Brush
All of these brushes cost me about $23.00 all together so that’s not bad – CVS had them on sale for 20% off each.
I also stopped by Target on the same day to pick up some odds and ends for my house and got sucked into the beauty aisle. I liked how the Eco-Tools Powder Brush felt (it’s so soft and dense) and plus it’s cute so I got one of those. I don’t like the other brushes though because they were either too short (I hate short, SE type brushes) or they didn’t feel right on my skin. I also picked up a Rimmel Eye Magnifier Waterproof Mascara when I was supposed to buy a CoverGirl Lash Blast instead. I bought the Rimmel because it was on sale for about four and a half dollars so I say what the hay and picked it up. I will also do a review on this too – I really like it. I picked up a cheap eyelash curler because I never had one because I don’t really have any lashes to use on them – the curse of having Asian eyes – but whatever. And lastly, I bought a travel sized Almay Eye Makeup Remover pads to try them out and yes, they work really well – again – a review about this haul is coming up along with all of my other hauls. I just have to learn how to edit my videos!

Illasmasqua at Sephora!
Wednesday, July 15th, 2009I and everybody else found about this amazing news on July 11, 2009, but I wanted to reiterate it here on my new blog because it belongs! I am very excited about this. I am really dying for those two Liquid Metal eyeshadows from their Sirens collection and few of their nail varnishes. I haven’t ever seen an Illamasqua product in real life let alone wore it, but I have been hearing great reviews about this company. I am so happy to announce…after it has been announced already (lol)…that Sephora.com and the Sephora store at Times Square in NYC will be launching their first set of Illamasqua products next week ! Yay!
What’s exactly on my list?? Here goes…

Illamasqua Solstice Eyeshadow from the Sirens Collection
I also want this eyeshadow in the color “Enrapture as well. These are the two main products I want from Illamasqua. I will also pick up a few nail varnishes as I’ve stated before. I am so very happy! Illamasquas comes to Sephora. Sweet!

A mini Cosmetics Company Store Haul
Monday, July 13th, 2009This past Saturday I made my first ever visit to our State’s Cosmetics Company Store and it was a very nice experience. I was helped the entire time by a salesperson named Amy and she was super helpful, nice, funny and answered every questions I had. The manager (I didn’t ask for his name) was nice too. and was very pleasant. Here are my pictures of my first EVER visit to the CCO here in New Jersey!
Now I’m going to tell you what MAC products were there. There were lots of Heatherette compacts and eye shadow trios. There were also a lof of Dame Edna compacts and eyeshadow trios. I saw a lot of Tempting quads too. I didn’t see too many lipglasses. They had a lot of Ungaro compacts. They didn’t have the Style Warrior compacts, but they did thave lot of Scatterays Solar Bits. Let me tell you all about what I didn’t know. I didn’t know that there is a limit of three eyeshadows per purchase. Yikes! There were lots of eyeshadows to choose from too – they didn’t have any of the colors I had on my list but that was OK. There were also lots of MSFs to choose from as well – no naturals – lots of shimmery ones and duos. All of the Fafi dolls were there, but I got the last brown one (had to have it). There was also a Fafi shopping bag for sale too. No MAC brushes for sale except for the short travel ones and I believe those were from the Christmas collection ???. Pigments were in abundance as well. Lots of MAC stuff, just not the stuff I really wanted like the foundation in my shade and there were no concealers.
My hubby spotted a Bobbi Brown makeup case that was gorgeous, but I didn’t get it. Maybe next time. It retailed at $225, but it was stunning. The name of the outlet center I went to is called The Jersey Shore Premium Outlets located in Tinton Fall, New Jersey and it is the only NJ outlet center that has a CCO. **OT (off topic) – there is no Coach store here! What the…? I will go back to the Jersey Shore CCO, but next time I’m going to visit the CCO out in Long Island to see what they have and they are called The Tanger Outlet of Riverhead New York.
Anyway, here are my CCO pictures!

I sent my husband to look for the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel so I’m thinking he was only able to locate the lotion version of it so I went with that. I’m all out of Neutrogena Moisturizing Lotion so I thought I’d give Clinique a try. So far, so good…review coming up for it soon!

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
Oh, I almost forgot something! I also hit the Fragrance Discount Store at my outlet center which had a big NYX Makeup display so I mini hauled there too. I spotted the display from afar, across the courtyard actually. LOL! I bought four nail polishes and two shade sticks…one in brown and the other in black. What I forgot to add to the picture was the Ice Princess Lipgloss I also purchased – am I liking NYX lipglosses? I’ll tell you what I think about it later.

My NYX Cosmetics mini haul!
Before I end this post I just wanted to say, again, that I had a very pleasant CCO shopping experience. What I was most excited about seeing was the Heatherette Beauty Powder compacts. I really wanted one of those and didn’t want to have to go through Ebay to get one. If any of you want to know how much I spent on these items shoot me an email and I’ll get back to you.
Thanks for reading…adios!!!
My New Makeup And Skin Care Blog!
Sunday, July 12th, 2009As all first posts to new blogs go (as I did with the first posts in all of my other blogs) is to do an introduction post as a way of starting off on the right foot. So, here is my beauty resume.
INTRODUCTION
Hello! My name is Tanya aka Sass aka blacKandi (pronounced Black Kandi) and I am the beautiful owner of this new blog called, “Properly Made Up”. The subjects of my makeup and skincare blog will only cover my own personal experiences with makeup, giving makeup reviews, talking about my makeup collection, sharing my makeup / beauty hauls and discussing makeup storage. Sweet? Totally.
EXPERIENCE
I love makeup and although I started wearing makeup when I was 30 years old (last year) I think that I have come a long way from that “plain girl”. Being the plain girl is great and I am not knocking it at all as I go out natural all the time, but I found that it was time for me to start covering up my imperfections (now that I am getting older) and that’s why I wear makeup…TO COVER UP MY IMPERFECTIONS and not to hide how I really look from the World. It makes me feel better to know that my appearance is on the money which gives me more confidence when I am out in public. I love playing with different brands of makeup and I am not brand loyal at all. I will try out high end to cheap products that are NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS. I am not a PETA member or animal advocate, but I love all animals. I only buy makeup that I know I’m going to use. I do not collect makeup, I collect Disney Pins and inspirational quotes only.
I started out with Bare Escentuals (BE) because well, it is easy to apply and since I was a beginner in makeup it was the best decision I made for myself. BE has a lot of starter kits so that was great for me at the time and I urge all beginners to the “Makeup World” to start there on the high end. I love BE and it is my favorite makeup brand of all time. I love mineral makeup and since I’ve learned how to keep the mess it makes minimal I’m really loving it. E.L.F. cosmetics also has starter kits for beginner or for those who want to try out their products that sell for close to pennies if you want to start out on the low end. I also love MAC, Stila, NYX, Urban Decay, Smashbox, Clinique, L’Oreal, CoverGirl, Yabi and those nameless mega numbered color palettes (ie. 88 palette and 28 neutral palette). I have yet to try out Illamasqua (I can’t wait), Benefit, Chanel and Nars.
EDUCATION
I don’t have any makeup or skincare education…not formally. I use products and if I like them I keep using them and if I hate them I dump them. That’s it!
SKILLS
Although I have not had any formal training in the makeup arts I do understand how to work with the basics of makeup. Everyday is a learning experience with me. Everyday I am trying out new looks and new products (through sampling) so I hope you will all take this journey with me. I am going to have a ball showing you what I can do.
Thank you for reading and I hope you will subscribe AND also comment on my posts.
